If you do a quick search on Google, you will find that most artificial grass providers claim synthetic lawns add value to your home.
We believe in honesty and transparency at My Lovely Lawn. It is our duty to tell you that this might not be the case. The reality is, nobody really knows. Suffice to say, any claim that artificial grass will add value to your home is unfounded.
On the contrary, one estate agent claims installing artificial grass might make it harder to sell your house so that you end up lowering the asking price. Mind you, they said the same thing about swimming pools and hot tubs so who knows.
Claims made by estate agents are also unsubstantiated. Nobody has ever performed a survey asking this question. Conclusions are nothing more than personal opinions.
And home artificial turf installations will no doubt divide opinion.
So let’s look at this from a rational perspective.
If you decide to sell your house in five or ten years time, your artificial grass will still have plenty of legs in it. Buyers that are not keen gardeners could see fake grass as an advantage whereby it becomes a selling point.
You might even want to add a couple of thousand pounds to your asking price in which case your fake grass will add value to your property.
On the flip side, if you decide to sell your existing home when the artificial lawn is coming to the end of its tenure, prospective buyers may want to negotiate the asking price and use the cost of artificial turf installations to drive the price down.
Why do Homeowners Install Artificial Grass?
Advanced manufacturing processes have helped to make artificial turf softer and appear more realistic to the naked eye. As a consequence, the fake grass industry in the UK has enjoyed a surge in home artificial turf installations.
The main reasons why homeowners prefer fake turf to natural grass is because:
- Home artificial turf installations are low maintenance and maintain an aesthetically pleasing appearance all year round
- Home artificial turf installations are durable and provide a safe environment for kids and pets*
- Artificial grass is less expensive to install and maintain than natural grass
- You will get more wear and tear out of artificial grass than natural grass - especially throughout the winter months
* It should be noted that not all artificial lawn installation is safe. Countries outside Europe are not subject to the rigorous health and safety standards of EU countries. We, therefore, recommend buying fake grass from providers that source products from European manufacturers only.
Is it Worth Putting in Artificial Grass?
We can’t really answer this question for you. There are pros and cons to installing artificial turf and your decision rests on your preferences.
If you want to create a safe playground for your children and pets without having to invest time and money in mowing, watering, weeding and fertilising your lawn, a home artificial turf installation provides a solution.
If you are looking to rent your property out and have artificial grass in your lawn, its great to keep maintenance costs low and super easy to maintain.
Should you decide to install fake grass in your garden, be careful what you purchase. There are some low-quality synthetics around which are bad for the environment and do not last very long.
Cheap artificial lawns are, therefore, not worth installing. Top-quality home artificial turf installations, on the other hand, provide a space for the whole family to enjoy and create memories you will cherish for a long time.
